Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, the power of star chains is an essential part of the civilizations of space and the people who live near the stars. And no, this is not the first title of the new Star Wars movie. But it is the premise of an endless and exciting world for you to discover for yourself. In this review of Star Atlas, we’ll look at how you can transform a typical space and sci-fi role-playing game with a few tweaks.

These are exciting times when humanity is discovering new and ingenious ways to reach the worlds beyond our Earth. Although we are a few decades (or even centuries) behind when it comes to greeting our alien neighbors, there are video games of enormous size and cinematic scope that at least allow us to simulate such a future. Star Atlas shows us a fractured universe where warring factions are constantly competing for resources, land and glory.

In Star Atlas, you and your friends form a motley crew of pirates, or join a faction and fight for their destiny. Spaceships, laser cannons, orbital stations… What we already know from other games is now enhanced with the latest blockchain technology to provide a safe, fair, fun and fully decentralized experience that can bring new value to this everyday reality. So read the lengthy review of Star Atlas to find out why we are so excited about it.

What is Star Atlas?

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Star Atlas is, as the website suggests, an online multiplayer metaverse in which players enter a vast intergalactic world. In the year 2620, in the distant future, the known universe is divided into three distinct factions: a human-controlled region, a consortium of alien nations in the Oni region, and the Usturian sector ruled by intelligent androids. As an inhabitant of the Star Atlas universe, you can be part of this broken world.

Essentially, Star Atlas is a blockchain that competes with other similar (and very popular) games like Star Citizen, EVE Online, No Man’s Sky, and many others. Star Atlas’ gameplay is also based on free roaming and an open world where players can explore new colonies, space stations or planets. Here they can communicate with other players, form new relationships or groups, and complete tasks or missions assigned to them in Star Atlas.

In the game world itself, you can play a role in an intergalactic community. You can also build or trade ships, weapons, armor and other valuable items. But unlike conventional games, Star Atlas has combined its mechanics and ecosystem with blockchain technology for in-game peer-to-peer economy, player management and key features to create a win-win, proven fair, highly reliable and decentralized gaming ecosystem.

How does Star Atlas work, and how do I play it?

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

In our Star Atlas review, we first look at how to interact with the game. As to be expected in the design of a large open-world multiplayer game, there are a few key features of the expansive world that help enhance the Star Atlas gameplay experience. Unlike some other games that are only programmed for one game type, Star Atlas uses a hybrid approach where players can decide how they want to approach Star Atlas.

There are different types of game modes and styles that players can choose from in the universe of Star Atlas. It is this versatility that makes Star Atlas so appealing, as a wide range of different players can immerse themselves in its sci-fi role-playing fantasy world. As a player you can be a strategist and plan wars between factions, participate in space exploration, live quietly in space or enjoy hours of space flight simulations.

1. Grand strategy.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

In this first genre review of Star Atlas, the Grand Strategy mode allows players to essentially participate in the management and leadership of an entire faction. You can attack other factions with offensive and defensive maneuvers to outwit your rival generals, or you can strategically manage logistics and trade routes. By dynamically mapping the mapped and unmapped regions of Star Atlas space, you can begin to build your own little galactic empire.

2. Recognition.

Perhaps one of the most enjoyable parts of sci-fi space adventure games is navigating the deadly and treacherous regions of space, discovering new places and things to explore. Star Atlas offers players the opportunity to enjoy it together with Grand Strategy. Escape all intergalactic wars and politics and build your own expedition on the high seas. Build a ship and your own crew to discover new heavenly and earthly objects in the game.

Create new mining companies on planets and moons to extract resources and upgrade them before selling them in the Star Atlas intergalactic marketplace, where you can make real money with these in-game assets; more on that later. In this exploration mode, players can view their ship from top to bottom, zoom in on specific areas to control the crew, and perform tasks to control the ship or manually fly around the ship using a virtual reality (VR) headset.

3. Role playing.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

The extraction of raw materials and precious metals is a major driver of the Star Atlas economy. Players must help manage this economy, and can play out scenarios by choosing and practicing a wide range of professions. The galaxy needs plenty of ore to grow and survive, so become a trader of these minerals, or a cargo hauler to transport them from one space station to another – and there are many more careers to choose from.

4. Space simulation.

Another pleasure of space adventures like Star Atlas is the ability to pilot your own ship outside the gravity-controlled atmosphere. Not only can you build, trade or upgrade your own ship, but you can also pilot it by hand with Star Atlas’ immersive flight simulator. Once in the cockpit, you can control the ship with the flightsticks and a full flight kit with numerous accelerators, switches and buttons, but you can also use motion tracking and VR headsets for total immersion.

What are the basic mechanisms of the star atlas?

In our Star Atlas article, we looked at not only the many game modes available to players, but also the basic mechanics of the game itself. Here we can see how the player can interact with the Star Atlas universe, including other players or the diverse and mysterious environment, as well as various items and kits within the larger intergalactic ecosystem to get an idea of what Star Atlas has to offer.

These are the main aspects that countless players from all over the world can discover in Star Atlas. So far we have talked about the use of strategy and planning, exploration, role-playing and flight simulations that can be enjoyed in a game. But Star Atlas also has other mechanisms that enhance your sense of involvement in the game, such as building your own ship, trading weapons, fighting with other players, mining minerals, etc.

1. Safety zones.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Although Star Atlas can be a very wild and dangerous place, the player begins the game in a safe, faction-free area after choosing their faction. It is a place where no fighting or destruction is allowed. It is a peaceful environment that allows players to interact with each other and serves as a hub for events such as trade or markets. Additionally, these safe zones serve as a safe place for new players to explore Star Atlas’ game mechanics at their leisure.

Once the player is safe enough to leave the safe areas, they can move on to the tiered areas, which vary in difficulty. In short, the further a player moves away from a certain safe zone, the harder the game becomes. This graduated difficulty level also affects your possessions in the game. If you z. B. If you kill in an area of medium difficulty, all your items will be reloaded when you reload, but if you kill on the outer edge, you may lose more of your inventory.

2. Space exploration.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Unlike other space adventure games, Star Atlas has no borders or skyboxes, which limits the player’s movements and allows for visual exploration. Any visible planet can be visited by the player, who can then descend to the surface and navigate the terrain. You can also use your ship and mining equipment to explore the hidden riches at the heart of these planets and sell the data from these sensors on the market.

3. Player-to-player or player-to-environment combat.

Each ship has a basic form of protection in the form of reinforced hulls and shields. However, players can go into battle, as each ship can be equipped with a wide variety of turrets and weapons. You can even use your ship as a target for ground stations, or use it to help you and your band of raiders loot another player’s base. Just as it is possible to play passively in Starry Atlas, it is also possible to play offensively.

4. Building and construction

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Just as importantly, Star Atlas encourages players to explore the achievements of its universe and find new planets or explore new regions of space. Building a base is another fundamental part of the game mechanics of Star Atlas, as an extension of setting up mining operations on the planet. You can build additional structures and buildings, each with their own specific functions to help the player progress in the game.

Check out our Star Atlas article to see several examples of the kinds of extra units that can be added to your space station or mining station to increase its capabilities. This takes the form of selected card games, and each game has its own characteristics:

  • Refinery – used to convert your raw materials and ores into higher-value (and therefore more expensive) materials.
  • Trade – Store and exchange goods related to the greater Star Atlas game market.
  • Shipyard – for construction of new vessels (including additional spare parts), repairs, refuelling, upgrading of tools, etc.
  • Hanger – for the safe and long term storage of your ships or an entire fleet of ships.
  • Defensive – build towers or militarized structures and add defense to your space station or mine outpost.
  • The university is a place where you can train and educate your crew, then level them up and give each member additional traits or skills.

5. Crew and ship management.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

As we mentioned in our Star Atlas review, you can control your own ship and crew to explore space. Managing their qualities and the balance of your team will be essential to your success. You can train your team members to learn new skills or improve their current talents. Crew members can also upgrade the skills of their teammates, just as ships can be equipped with different parts to accomplish a specific mission.

6. Game tasks and career progression.

To make Star Atlas as immersive as possible – imagine living as a real person in a futuristic intergalactic society – players can choose to work. This profession allows the player to perform certain tasks related to that profession, where you can also earn in-game currency. Jobs include pilots, construction agents, bounty hunters, mercenaries, engineers, military and more, each with their own career paths.

7. Decentralised autonomous bodies.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Because traveling through deep space can be a challenge in itself, Star Atlas encourages its players to band together and form their own factions. These are decentralized autonomous societies (DACs), where you and your friends can build your own space station and run your own government. Essentially, each BEC has its own economy, its own communities, and its own rules to govern it independently of the other factions.

By pooling their resources, these player-controlled and managed CCRs can wage war against other CCRs, or perhaps form a strategic alliance between them to keep the peace. Each DAC will have its own political class – a feature made possible by Star Atlas’ POLIS crypto-currency management token – where they can set taxes, fees, fines, and access for aliens to be part of their DAC or admitted to their space station.

How does Star Atlas Tokenomics work?

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Another key element that makes Star Atlas special – and a key feature at the heart of the game itself, as we touched on in our Star Atlas review – is the economy. What sets Star Atlas apart from other similar games in its category is the economy and how it can help players turn what is essentially a virtual game object into something that can have tangible value in the real world. In other words: Players can only gain income by playing Star Atlas.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

This business model ensures that each player can be compensated for their attention and contribution to the game, unlike other games that focus more on monetization – like lootboxes or microtransactions. This is achieved through the intelligent implementation of Star Atlas’ Blockchain technology. Essentially, there are two proprietary cryptocurrency tokens that form the basis of all transactions and value in Star Atlas.

ATLAS is a community currency in the game.

The first – and perhaps the most important – is ATLAS. This is the main monetary medium that most players deal with, as it is the main engine of the game’s economy. Essentially, any unit or asset purchased in Star Atlas is an NFT (non-disposable token), meaning they have real value and can be easily converted to fiat currency. This allows players to use ATLAS as a way to spend or earn items in the game.

For example, players can use ATLAS by buying or selling items such as ships, parts, weapons, armor, equipment, building materials, ores, etc. This is facilitated by built-in marketplaces, such as trading through vendors, or peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions between players. This is facilitated by built-in marketplaces, such as trading through vendors, or peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions between players. However, players must also be careful about how they spend, for example, ATLAS tokens. For example, for fuel for their ships or payment for mining equipment.

POLIS – The control bishop in the game.

At the same time, POLIS is the control tile of the game, which can also be used to control Star Atlas as a whole. Being a fully decentralized system, POLIS is used to access the management of the entire game network. During the game, POLITICAL tiles are political tools that allow players to control entire regions or factions in the game. For example, you can adopt new rules or regulations, have a say in tax collection, levy instruments, etc.

This allows players to collaborate using POLIS tokens to democratically manage the game ecosystem and optimize the gaming experience for all players. Outside of the game, however, players who own POLIS tokens have a say in decisions made by the development team. POLIS token holders can make suggestions and vote on topics such as inflation rates, asset exits, implementation of new features, game-changing dynamics, etc.

What is the economy of Star Atlas?

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

The economy of the star atlas universe is carefully managed and controlled using the smart contract functionality built into the Solana blockchain. This allows certain actions – such as. B. Destruction of assets – affects the economy of Star Atlas as a whole and contributes to its deflationary mechanism. This means that what players do in the game can affect the financial and monetary system of this virtual world.

For example, players whose ships are destroyed and items are lost will discover that a particular NFT – every value in the game is named NFT, remember – has been completely burned, increasing its rarity and balancing the economy for other players. In the meantime, players who get their loot from other players during the war can store these items and transfer their respective values to the NFT.

Other items such as fuel, building materials or minerals will also have the same mechanisms. When players disassemble a given item to extract its base materials, the NFT is also burned and reconfigured to reflect the corresponding value of the new items derived from it. Over time, this will naturally lead to a gradual and organic deflation, where items become rarer and players are encouraged to be even more daring to get more rewards.

How does this economy improve the gaming experience in Star Atlas?

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

As we’ll see in more detail in our Star Atlas review – there are a lot of tokenomics to explain – the Star Atlas development team plans to release resources gradually. This is where we will begin to see items being sold in anticipation of the public launch of the game, to help raise money for the creation of the game. Players may purchase NFTs early and use these items after the game is fully released.

In addition to pre-selling NFT assets, players can interact with the integrated NFT marketplace. You can buy or sell items, including posting jobs or specific tasks. As we’ve already learned from burning assets in Star Atlas, an organic deflationary economy means that every item in the game has a limited supply. However, the church leadership can vote to issue new assets to bring in more property if necessary.

Another interesting way for players to use tokenization in the game is through player-created content. This feature will be added at a later date and will allow players to create their own items and offer them for sale on the universal Star Atlas game marketplace. This can be a simple skin or cosmetic option, or players can sell algorithms to increase the efficiency of a player’s mining potential or allow for the automation of certain tools.

The proceeds from the sale of all NFT assets should be transferred to ATLAS: USDC AMM (Automated Market Maker), called UAMM. The funds stored in this MSA pool may be available if players wish to convert their ATLAS tokens into other cryptocurrencies or fiat. As MAs, outside market participants can also participate in the economy by providing liquidity to the MA pool or by receiving commissions on transactions.

The integration of NFT will undoubtedly be a key factor in making Star Atlas an attractive option for players. To further optimize the game’s business model, Star Atlas will introduce periodic token burning. A portion of the revenue generated by the development team will be used to facilitate the purchase and burning of tokens. These purchases are made on open decentralised exchanges (DEX).

How did Star Atlas develop a hybrid game?

Underneath all the glitz and glamour, Star Atlas is built and powered by the Unreal Engine 5 game engine. It is one of the newest and most advanced game engines available today. It uses advanced technologies to create a fluid and cinematic experience for players. Just check out his public demo to see that every detail and effect is beautifully designed.

Star Atlas uses the Unreal Engine 5 and a number of key innovations to make your intergalactic dreams a reality:

  • Nanite – allows the simulation of an infinite number of polygons following specific objects, with amazing visual accuracy in real time.
  • Lumen is a more believable dynamic lighting system built into the engine that simulates a more realistic scene with shadows, refractions, reflections and other effects.
  • Chaos is a feature that modifies and improves the physics model of the game, allowing for more realistic destruction or simulated damage.
  • Niagara – Used to improve the detail and flow of certain particles and their effects in the game, such as. B. Water, smoke or dust.

What did Star Atlas use?

But aside from using a mind-blowing set to power your game, we also pointed out much earlier in our Star Atlas review that blockchain technology is somehow mixed in. So what blockchain is built into Star Atlas to enhance your gaming experience, and how does it affect you, the player?

Solana – Enables high-speed star atlas operations.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

While the graphics of the Star Atlas game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, Solana will be the main data center for the Star Atlas universe. Solana is known for its speed and is one of the largest and most popular blockchains to date. Solana is ideal for running Star Atlas because of its high throughput. This sets it apart from other games or gaming platforms built on Ethereum, such as Enjin or Decentraland.

It is designed for mission-critical and high-performance applications because it can consistently process 50,000 transactions per second (TPS), with a fast blocking time of only 400 ms and with very low overhead. Solana will not only perform and certify all in-game transactions – such as NFT transfers between players – but will also enable a near decentralized, serverless, untrusted, immutable and secure gaming experience with great scalability.

DEX Serum – Integration of DeFi functions into Star Atlas.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

Since users can earn currency that can have real, tangible value, players will need an exchange to link their ATLAS tokens to other cryptocurrencies or fiat. Serum is a decentralized exchange managed in partnership with Star Atlas, which guarantees almost instant settlement times and minimal costs. But also, as a direct result of the DEX Serum link, Star Atlas players will benefit from additional opportunities to make money through decentralized funding.

Serum is bringing a new DeFi feature to its game, where ATLAS tokens can be used in-game to access financial services offered by certain factions or ADCs. For example, players can use loan services to lend their chips to other users in exchange for interest. Whey also offers an MA that allows users to trade, and a yield initiative where users can automatically earn on bond or loan spreads.

Stardust – Secure APIs for NFT.

Stardust is a key partner of Star Atlas as an API and backend management provider for player accounts and NFT operations. Stardust makes this possible in an easy and safe way, allowing players to actively manage their NFT in the most optimal way. This includes the ability to seamlessly integrate all future Solana-based NMTs and trade on Serum’s DEX, and as such, Stardust will be a key partner in Star Atlas’ growth.

What are Star Atlas’ plans for the future?

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

The biggest problem at the time of writing this review of Star Atlas is the fact that while the project itself is starting to take shape, the game has yet to be launched or shown to the public. The first step, of course, will be the subsequent public release via alpha and beta testing before the full launch. To support the continued development of the game, Star Atlas 5 plans to release separate assets to sell in-game NFT items to future players.

  • Phase 1 (OpenSea Galactic Asset Offering – GAO) – The first tranche of assets, including ATLAS tokens and gaming assets, will be sold on the OpenSea NFT marketplace.
  • Phase 2 (browser-based mini-game) will convert the full, minimally functional version of Star Atlas into a browser-based mini-game for initial testing and to allow players to purchase and use their NFTs in-game.
  • Phase 3 (sell shipyard module) – After playing through the browser, Star Atlas will fully transition to Unreal Engine 5 in Phase 3, and the shipyard module will become publicly available, where players can view their in-game assets (such as ships, parts or crew members) in the controlled area of the shipyard.
  • Stage 4 (Pre-Sale Beta) – Prior to the full release of Star Atlas, players can choose to play in the Pre-Sale Beta stage where all items are available.
  • Level 5 (Permanent Sales) – Once Star Atlas is fully launched, new items can continue to be distributed and offered for sale in the in-game marketplace, as well as in an additional area of the Salvation Wars game where players can bid on and purchase containers filled with in-game goods (a mechanism similar to a Lootbox).

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

After the full public launch of Star Atlas in phase 5, the development has several things planned for the future. The game world will expand with new areas and regions, and will be able to interact with other blockchain protocols. That way, the game itself can exist and seamlessly interact between the different units. Players can also choose to store these NFTs on other networks, such as the popular Ethereum.

Star Atlas will also allow users to create their own content and sell it on in-game marketplaces – as we mentioned in our review of Star Atlas’ expanded economy. Additionally, Star Atlas plans to allow players to use their computer’s mining power to make real contributions to initiatives like SkyHub. For example, the player can help process data on behalf of scientific organizations to support their discoveries.

Test of theStar Atlas – Conclusion.

Star Atlas Review – Where Gaming Meets DeFi & NFTs

At the end of our review of Star Atlas, it’s hard not to feel light and excited about the future. Thanks to the rise of other popular space RPGs, this is clearly a special genre that has a lot of appeal for new players. Everyone wonders what lies in the stars, but why wonder any longer when you can imagine being part of this new world.

Star Atlas will give you – at least we hope until launch – the same experience in the comfort of your living room. But in addition to being a promising game that fully immerses you in the cockpit of the USS Enterprise for hours on end, it brings with it a whole host of innovations. Blockchain gaming may still only be a new niche phenomenon, but if there’s one thing we can learn from our early review of Star Atlas, it’s that we’re unlikely to see the dawn of a new era in gaming.

Star Atlas Overview

  • Unreal Engine 5 creates the best, most realistic and cinematic gaming experience.
  • Smart integration of blockchain technology to add new features and enhance the more traditional gaming experience.
  • Lots of opportunities for players to approach the game and play at their own pace and style.
  • A balanced tokenomic model with the introduction of NFT and DeFi services to create value for each player and the broader ecosystem.
  • Players have a say in determining the future of the game through federated community governance.

  • The game is far from being launched, so game mechanics, graphics or other additional features cannot be fully explored yet.
